Speakeasy
|
Speakeasy Ales and Lagers was founded in 1997
in San Francisco’s Bayview District. The founders
were bonded by their passion for great beer and
the desire to rebuild San Francisco’s great
brewing tradition lost since Prohibition. It was
during prohibition that Speakeasies gained
prominence as underground establishments
serving alcohol illegally.
When Prohibition was
repealed, it was the larger breweries that
dominated the marketplace virtually shutting out
the small craft beer-makers. It wasn’t until
decades later that brewing restrictions relaxed
allowing smaller beer makers like Speakeasy to
begin making beer. Today Speakeasy is widely
regarded as one of the finest craft beers in the
USA, winning prizes and accolades around the
country. |
